Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how 9to5Azure ("I", "me", "my") collects and uses personal data when you visit this website and when you create a member account.

Who I Am

9to5Azure is a personal technical blog and can be accessed via the website: 9to5Azure.com

For privacy queries, data access requests, deletion requests, or any support query, contact me at support@9to5azure.com

What Data I Collect

a) Data you provide when you sign up

When you create an account (become a member), the site collects:

  • Email address (required) - Used to create your member account and to deliver newsletters and post notifications if you subscribe.
  • Name (required) - If you choose to provide a name, it is used to personalise emails and member-related messages.

b) Data created by your use of the site

To operate membership, understand sign-up effectiveness, manage newsletters, maintain site reliability, and prevent abuse, the site may record:

  • Approximate location (for example, country, state, or region such as "California, US") - This is used for high-level audience understanding and is not used for identification purposes.
  • Sign-up metadata, including:
    • When your account was created.
    • The source of your sign-up (for example, a search engine, LinkedIn, or a direct visit).
    • The page you signed up from.
  • Member activity events, such as:
    • When you log in.
    • When you subscribe to, change, or unsubscribe from newsletters.
    • The page where a membership sign-up occurred.
  • Missing-page events, such as:
    • The missing path and query string requested.
    • The referring page, if your browser provides one.
    • The browser user agent and timestamp.
    • An approximate country and a one-way hashed IP address, if available from site infrastructure.
  • Basic page-view analytics, such as visited pages, referring sources, approximate location, browser/device information, and interaction events, where collected through Google Analytics.

c) Labels and campaigns (only if used)

If I run a specific sign-up offer or campaign (for example, "free 30-minute advisory"), your account may have a label attached to indicate how you signed up.

Labels are used for basic segmentation, reporting, and administering the offer (where relevant).

Labels are not used to sell your data or to target advertising.

Labels allow me to reach out to certain members based on how they sign-up to provide additional services.

If labels are not used on the sign-up form, this section does not apply.

What I Do Not Collect

I do not require your address, phone number, date of birth, employer, or payment details for free membership.

I am not asking you to provide sensitive personal data through sign-up.

In practice, many web platforms and hosting providers process IP addresses for security and service delivery. I do not use IP addresses to identify you or for marketing purposes. For missing-page tracking, 9to5Azure may store a one-way hashed version of an IP address and an approximate country if this is available from site infrastructure. Raw IP addresses are not stored by 9to5Azure for this feature.

Why I Collect This Information

Member information is used to:

  • Provide access to member features (where enabled).
  • Deliver newsletters and notifications you choose to receive.
  • Understand which channels and pages lead to sign-ups (for example, search vs LinkedIn).
  • Identify broken links, suspicious missing-page requests, and automated abuse patterns.
  • Maintain basic security, prevent abuse, and support troubleshooting.
  • Understand site usage and improve content, navigation, and tooling.

Who Processes Your Data

This site is powered by Github Pages, which provides membership and email delivery functionality. Member data is stored and processed within a database platform and its supporting infrastructure and sub-processors.

I do not sell your personal data. And never will.

Data Sharing

I only share personal data where necessary to operate the site, for example:

  • With platform components and relevant service providers used to deliver site functionality and emails.
  • With analytics providers, such as Google Analytics, to understand aggregate site usage and improve the site.
  • If required by law, regulation, or a valid legal request.

Cookies

If you log in as a member, the site may set essential cookies to:

  • Maintain your logged-in session
  • Support account-related functionality

Tool preference cookies

The Azure Naming Convention Generator tool stores functional preference cookies in your browser (prefixed ng_) to remember your last-used settings, including your customer acronym, naming convention selection, environment, and region. These cookies expire after one year.

These cookies are used to restore your preferences on your next visit. They are not used for advertising or cross-site tracking, but site analytics may still record normal page-view and usage information as described above.

If additional analytics or non-essential cookies are introduced in future, I will update this Privacy Policy and, where required, present appropriate consent options.

How Long I Keep Your Data

I keep member information only for as long as necessary to operate the membership service, maintain the integrity of mailing lists, and meet legal or operational requirements.

If you request deletion of your account, I will delete or anonymise your personal data unless I must retain certain records for legal, security, or administrative reasons.

Changes To This Policy

I may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in site features, platform configuration, or legal requirements. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.
